Kalika Parameswari Temple, Koradacherry, Thiruvarur
Kalika Parameswari Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Goddess Parvathi consort of Lord Shiva located at Koradacherry in Thiruvarur
District of Tamilnadu. Sthala Vriksham is Neem (Vembu) and Theertham is Thirukulam.
The temple is north of the Kalluli Mariamman temple where a king worshipped
before invading north.
Legends
Story
behind the temple construction:
The temple came into being with the efforts of an
affluent devotee. Mother Kalikambal appeared in the dream of an affluent
man and asked him to build a temple so that she would be spared from rain and
sun. She also promised to be the custodian deity of the place. Thus, the
temple began to grow in a shed and reached the present status as the temple of
the village.
Panchakshapuram:
In olden days, the place was known as Panchakshapuram as
the five Boodhas worshipped Lord Shiva with idols made of five metals.
Koradacherry:
As some blind people also worshipped here, the place was
also called Kurudarseri (Kurudar-blind). Later the name changed as Koradacherry.
The
Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Kalika Parameswari. There
is a Kalasa in the sanctum sanctorum in the north. The mandapam is
spacious to facilitate darshan for 500 people. Idols of Dhanalakshmi,
Dhanya Lakshmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Santhana Lakshmi, Aadhi Lakshmi, Veera Lakshmi, Ishwarya
Lakshmi and Vijayalashmi represent the Sculptural skill of the artists of
Tamilnadu. They are made with minute care.
Lords Vinayaka, Muruga with his consorts Valli and
Deivanai in separate shrines are on the right side of the entrance. On the
left of the entrance are Lord Ayyappa and Saint Ragavendrar. The Shivalinga
found in the fields, Saptha Kannikas and Nagars are under the holy tree. Mothers
Durga, Kamakshi, Dakshayani and Lord Vinayaka adore the walls of the sanctum sanctorum.
Sri Anjaneya is opposite the Thulasi Madam behind the
temple. Mother Karumari Amman is facing east. The temple is
surrounded by water bodies on three sides. Sthala Vriksham is Neem (Vembu) and
Theertham is Thirukulam. Some auspicious sounds are echoing in the temple. The
temple with its 6 Kalasas is said to be 500 years old. The last
consecration was performed in September 2013.

The Temple remains open from 8.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and
from 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
Festivals
Chithirai Thiruvizha in April-May, 16 day Sharada
Navarathri in September-October are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
Prayers
For removal of obstacles in wedding talks, for child
boon and to realize their various wishes, devotees pray here. Devotees pay
their gratitude to Amman with milk Abisheks, milk pots, lighting Maa Vilakku
(using a lamp made of rice flour and ghee paste) offering skirts (Pavadai in
Tamil) and cradles and by carrying Kavadis.

Koradacherry is located at about 20 Kms from Thiruvarur,
10 Kms from Needamangalam, 44 Kms from Thanjavur, 9 Kms from Engan and 98 Kms
from Trichy. Koradacherry is located on Thiruvarur to Thanjavur route. The
devotee must get down at Vennaru bus stop. The temple is 1 km far on the
south. Nearest Railway Station is located at Koradacherry, Thiruvarur and Needamangalam.
