Peddaneswaran Temple, Devar Kanda Nallur, Thiruvarur
Peddaneswaran Temple is a Hindu Temple located at Devar
Kanda Nallur Village in Kudavasal Taluk in Thiruvarur District of Tamilnadu.
Presiding Deity is Peddaneswaran and Mother is Periyanayagi. Sthala Vriksham is
Vembu (Neem tree). A well in the temple is the Theertham associated with this
Temple. The temple is under the administration of HR & CE.
Legends
The temple has the same history of Kumarasmi
temple. It is noteworthy that there is no Lord Vinayaka idol in the
temple, as the actions taken to quench the fury of Mother Parvathi was not
acceptable to him. Devotees who consider the deity as their Kuladevatha
had placed a lot of idols in the temple. The name of the temple is after
the fact that the Devas (celestial beings) discovered this place. This
later came to be known as Devar Kanda Nallur.

Presiding Deity is Peddaneswaran and Mother is Periyanayagi.
Sthala Vriksham is Vembu (Neem tree). A well in the temple is the Theertham
associated with this Temple. The holy neem tree is at the entrance in the
south. The Maha Mandapa is designed as the Tamil letter “PA”. It has
a capacity of accommodate 1000 people at a time. There are 16 Kalasas
in the temple.
Aathi Uthandarayar, Yama’s envoy, Lord Yama the God of
Death, Periyachi, Jeshtadevi, Pidari, Sastha and Lord Muruga are in their
respective shrines. All of them are facing west. There are also idols
in the temple for Kathayee Amman, Lord Muruga on the peacock, Lord Nataraja,
Mother Brahmma Nayaki, Bhadrakali, Padrayeswarar, Boodha Ganas, Saints and
sages, Thoondilkaran, Veeman idols are in the temple. The antiquity of the
temple is said to be above 1000 years.
The last consecration was performed in the year 2009. Abishek
is performed to all the idols in the temple. Abishek is performed to all
the deities in the temple including Aadhi Uthandarayar. Being close to
Tiruvarur Thyagaraja and Patanjali Manoharar temple, the place gains greater
importance.

The temple is open from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and from
5.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
Festivals
Panguni Uthiram in March-April and Maha Shivarathri in
February-March and all Shiva related festivals are celebrated in the temple.
Prayers
Devotees pray here for total freedom from the impact of
any and all evils around them. Kuladeiva worship is undertaken with
a pious mind by many families. Devotees offer food grains, goats, cocks and
doves alive. They light Maa Vilakku – lighting lamps made of a paste of ghee
and rice flour. Carry milk pots.
