Mention
It is
one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the
early medieval Thevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanar Tirugnanasambandar. This temple is considered as 113th Devaram
Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 59th Sthalam on the banks of river Kollidam
and north side of river Cauvery of Chozha Nadu.

describes the feature of the deity as:
மாகந் தோய்மதி சூடி மகிழ்ந்தென
