is also called as Sanyasi Hills. An ancient Shiva Lingam has been there in open
space at the top of the Hills. Holy Spring is there near the Shiva Lingam.
The
water from this spring is used for ablution of Shivalingam. During festive
days, people used to do Girivalam across this hill. Chidambaram Swamigal, the
founder of Thiruporur Kandhaswamy Temple, before going to Thiruporur, got
permission from this Murugan. It is an ancient temple with rich heritage and
spiritual values but not so impressive from the view point of architecture and
maintenance.
The
place is exactly half way between Chennai and Pondicherry i.e., 76 kms from
Chennai & 76 kms from Pondicherry. After Kalpakkam, Pudupattinam and the
long Palar bridge at Voyalur, there is a road to the right side that goes to
Maduranthakam. Take that road for about 2-3 kms and you will reach
Nergunapattu. The Kandhaswamy temple is about 100 meters inside from the main
road on the right side.
