Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Egmore, Chennai
Srinivasa Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Lord Vishnu located at Egmore, well-known locality of Chennai City in Tamil
Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Srinivasa Perumal and Mother is called as
Padmavathi. The Temple is situated on the LNP Koil street, Egmore on the banks
of Holy River Koovam. Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Street in short LNP Koil
Street may be named after Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal now at Arthanareeswarar
Temple, Egmore. The temple is one of the oldest structures in Chennai City. This
temple is about 600 years old.
Legends
It was told that the sages like Sthuthi, Viswamitra and Gowthama
worshiped Srinivasa Perumal of this temple.
The Temple
The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram.
Presiding Deity is called as Srinivasa Perumal and Mother is called as
Padmavathi. A Mandapam and shrine for Padmavathi Thayar Shrine can be found immediately
after the Rajagopuram. Sanctum is situated on the right side of the Padmavathi
Thayar Shrine. Balipeedam, Dwajastambam and Garudalwar can be found facing the
sanctum. Presiding Deity, Srinivasa Perumal is gracing the devotees along with
his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. There are shrines for Andal, Rama and
Hanuman in the outer prakaram. Madapalli and Vahana mandapam can be found in the
outer prakaram.
