Vaaleeswarar Temple is a Hindu Shrine dedicated to Lord
Shiva located inside Kanchipuram
Ekambaranathar Temple in Kanchipuram City in Kanchipuram District of
Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Vaaleeswarar. This is one of the 108
Shiva temples mentioned in Kanchi Puranam. The Temple is also called as Vaaleesam.
Legends
As per Hindu mythology, Vali, Vanara King, worshipped
Lord Shiva and got a boon such that in any duel, Vali's opponent would lose
half his strength to Vali. After the boon, Vali was extremely powerful and
invincible. It is believed that the Linga in this Shrine was worshipped by
Vali.
The Temple
This Shrine is situated inside Kanchipuram
Ekambaranathar Temple. It is located in the third Prakaram. The
Shrine is facing west and situated to the east of Kachi Mayanam.
