Poola Nandeeswarar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Chinnamanur Town in Theni
District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is Poola Nandeeswarar and Mother is
called as Shivagami. The temple is situated on the eastern bank of Surabi
River. Chinnamanur was called as Hari Kesava Nallur during ancient times. This
is one of the five temples in Theni district that the Pandya King, Veera Pandya
worshiped and got his eye sight. The Temple is also considered as Thiruvasaga
Sthalam as it is mentioned in Holy Thiruvasagam.

History
The old name of this place is
Harikesanallur as it was founded by King Harikesa Pandian. The town
is also mentioned in the Tamil grammatical work, Tholkappiam. The Temple at
Chinnamanur was constructed by the Pandya king Rajasimha II (A.D.900-920). Chinnama
Nayakkar, a government official in Rani Mangammal period was instrumental in
creating this town. Hence, the town came to be called as Chinnamanur. The
Temple has been renovated by Bodinayakanur Jamin.
The Temple has around 27
inscriptions. This Temple had been called as Ala Naatin Brahmadeyamana
Harikesari Nallurin Rajasimheswaramudaiyar in the inscriptions. The
inscriptions from the Pandya Kings Maravarman, Kulasekara Varman I, Jadavarma,
Veerapandya and Sadaiyan Maran record various gifts like land, sheep, cow and
oil to the temple.

drawing a huge crowd in April May; Vaikasi Visakam milk pot in May-June; Aani
Thirumanjanam in June July, Lord selling fire wood in Aavani-August-September;
Purattasi Navaratri in September-October; Aipasi Skanda Sashti in October-November;
Karthikai in November-December; Margazhi Arudhra Darshan in December-January;
Thai Poosam in January-February, Shivarathri in February-March and Panguni
Uthiram in March-April are the festivals grandly celebrated in the temple.
Special pooja will be conducted at respective star for 63 Nayanmars
Prayers

The Temple is located at about
1.5 Kms from Chinnamanur New Bus Stand, 6 Kms from Kuchanur, 17 Kms from Cumbum,
23 Kms from Theni, 24 Kms from Theni Railway Station, 25 Kms from Bodinayakanur,
99 Kms from Madurai and 110 Kms from Madurai Airport. This temple is situated
in the heart of Chinnamanur Town, near Bus Stand. There are frequent bus
facilities available for every 5 minutes from Theni to Chinnamanur. Buses going
towards Cumbum and Kumili from Theni will pass through Chinnamanur.
