Soundararajaperumal Temple, Thadikombu – Rituals &
Prayers
Those who have lost their possessions and those desirous
of restoring broken relationships offer lime fruit garlands to Karthaveeryarjuna
lighting ghee lamps. Sri Andal, the legendary poetess and devotee of
Vishnu, can be seen on every Thursday in the mandapam of the Sundararaja
Perumal Temple.
Devotees perform turmeric abishekam (ablution) to Andal
to be blessed with an early alliance of marriage. Performing poojas to the
deities Rathi and Manmathan for five consecutive Thursdays in this temple are
supposed to help unmarried people find suitable marriage partners. Some people
believe that they can even get foreign suitors if they pray on Thursdays to
this Andal.
People believe that they get even foreign suitors if so
prayed for. Devotees also throng the temple for child boon, academic
achievements, business development etc. Devotees perform abishek to the Lord
with Tulsi garlands and sari to Mother.
Those having prayer commitments
to Madurai Azhagar can offer the same in this temple. Those weak in
education, suffering from lack of memory pray to Lord Hayagriva and Mother
Saraswathi gracing from their shrines in the Prakara.
On Thiruvonam star day, they perform special pujas to
Lord Hayagriva with honey, coconut and a nivedhana made of jaggery powder and
ghee and cardamom garlands. Devotees also throng the temple to get a child, for
academic achievements and success in business.
It is customary for devotees to offer saris to Goddess Soundara
valli and a garland made of thulasi (basil leaves) to Soundararajan Perumal
after their wishes are fulfilled.
The temple is special as it houses in the same complex
Lords who provide solutions to different problems. This is the only temple to
house Goddess Saraswathi and Lord Hayagriva in the same Sannidhi.
A Special Pooja is performed at the Dhanvantri Sannidhi
on No Moon day to relieve one of any health problems. A visit to the Lakshmi
Narasimha Sannidhi on full moon day is said to help solve finance related
issues.
Special Pooja on Thursdays at the Rathi- Manmatha
Sannidhi relieves couples of problems in their married life. A pooja during
Rahu Kaalam on Sunday at the Swarna Akarshana Bairavar Sannidhi helps one
recover from financial losses and bad debts.
