Triambakeswarar Temple, Erumaithalai, Thiruvarur
Triambakeswarar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Erumaithalai Village near
Kudavasal in Thiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu. This place is also called as Triambakapuram
in olden days. It is believed that the Lord Murugan of this Temple had been
praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his Thirupugazh Hymns.
History
It is considered as
Thirupugazh Temple as Lord Muruga of this temple has been praised by
Arunagirinathar in his Thirupugazh Hymns. Since the names of some of the places
mentioned in Thirupugazh have changed in course of time, locating them was not
an easy task. In fact, Triambakapuram is now known as Erumaithalai.
Triambakapuram is one of the 193 places in Tamilnadu that Arunagirinathar
visited. Valayapettai Ra. Krishnan, Muruga devotee and Thiruppugazh propagator,
and his brother Dr. R. Ramaseshan engaged themselves in an extensive research
of the places and have published books Arunagirinathar Adicchuvattil and Thirupugazh
Thalappayanam.
Triambakapuram was once populated
with Sanskrit scholars and Dikshidars who performed yagnas. A century ago, the Dikshidars
migrated and spread themselves in Sengalipuram, Vadakudi, Kandiramanickam and
so on. However, the temple of Triambaka Sastha, family deity of the Dikshidars,
is still there. As advised by Mahaperiyava, the temples of Pidari and Kaali
were renovated some years ago. But the Siva temple had disappeared with only
the Shivalingam with the Avudaiyar standing testimony to its existence.
The
Temple
The Temple has been built
recently from ashes. Presiding Deity is called as Triambakeswarar and Mother is
called as Sowbagya Gowri. There are shrines for Vinayagar, Murugan,
Chandikeswarar, Arunagirinathar in the Temple premises.

between Sengalipuram and Perumpannaiyur, at around 3 Kms from Perumpannaiyur in
the Kumbakonam - Tiruvarur bus route. Perumpannaiyur is located at about 8 Kms
from Sengalipuram, 8 Kms from Srivanchiyam, 10 Kms from Kudavasal, 5 Kms from
Engan, 13 Kms from Koradacherry, 16 Kms from Thiruvarur and 110 Kms from
Trichy. Nearest Railway Station is located at Thiruvarur and Koradacherry.
