Shenbagavalli Amman Temple, Payanam, Kanyakumari
Shenbagavalli
Amman Temple is dedicated to Shenbagavalli Amman, an incarnation of
Goddess Parvati located at Payanam Village in Kanyakumari District of
Tamilnadu. Within the Mandapam, the sanctum is situated below the vimana and is
supported by 17 pillars that coordinate with the 17 letters of the ‘Shenbagavalli
Amman’. The deity of the temple is postured to hold a trident, and a child in
her hands.
A Sacred
Fig, (Ficus religiosa, or Bo-Tree), Shenbagavalli nursery school and a Banyan
tree are situated outside the main temple. This temple is maintained by Shenbagavalli
Amma trust. And this trust helps poor people in Payanam. In the end of February
or the beginning of March, the famous annual Festival is held at this site.
During this festival, the Goddess is taken out on a procession throughout
the Marthandam town
and the Payanam village.

Village is located at about 3 Kms from Marthandam, 6 Kms from Kuzhithurai, 4
Kms from Thiruvattaru, 12 Kms from Thuckalay, 18 Kms from Colachel, 50 Kms from
Kanyakumari, 27 Kms from Nagercoil, 48 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram. Nearest
Railway Station is Kuzhithurai Railway Station, located at about 6 Kms from
Payanam. Nearest Airport is located at Thiruvananthapuram.
