Thirukkadigai, Sholinghur – Inscriptions

Thirukkadigai, Sholinghur – Inscriptions
The temples at the foothill as well as those atop the two hills have many inscriptions. According to them the area was known as Kadigai Nadu and they mention the names of kings like Seeyagangan, Kulothunga III, Mayura Varman and others. Many grants were made to the temples by these kings. One of them says that the Andal idol in the temple was lost and a new idol was installed in its place. Inscriptions from the period of Parantaka Chola I (10tth cent) as well as those from the Vijayanagar period are found here. It is said that even during the time of Karikal Cholan, this region of Tamilnadu was referred to as Kadikaikkottam. Inscriptions states that the temple was renovated during the regime of Sri Veeerabadhra Ramadevarayar and Sri Venkatapathy Devaraya 1527 (1619 A.D).
The prints of culverts were taken during 1896 and 1952-53. This is the only Vaishnava Temple of the Vellore District which is praised by the Alwars in their Pasuram. Chalukya King came from North to Tamilnadu and learned in Kanchi Kadigai. This is gradually known as Sholinghur or Sholingapuram. There are many culverts near the lake and in Gangaikondan Mandapam in Sannadhi street. Swami Doddachariar is the Sthala Acharyar. It is said that he planned to construct the Temple and the Town. This temple is dedicated in Sarvathari year Meena month, Sutha Panchami day. Erumbi Padmapuram was the dwelling place of Vaishnava Acharya.
