Neelivaneswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thiruppaingneeli Village in Trichy District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Neelivaneswarar / Aaranya Vidankan / Kathali Vasanthar / Neelakandeswarar/ Gneelivana Nathar / Viswanathar.  Mother is called as Visalakshi/ Neellnedunkannammal Ammai. The temple is frequented by unmarried men and women looking for brides or bridegrooms. There are inscriptions belonging to Raja Raja Chola I and Rajendra Chola I.












The Soundareeswara shrine within the temple is believed to have been constructed by Mahendravarman I in 640 AD. The Temple has been praised in Devaram Hymns. The shrine is elaborately praised by the Saivite Trinity – Tirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar. This temple is the 115th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 61st Sthalam on the north side of River Cauvery of Chozha Naadu. The temple is also called ‘South Kailash’.
