Pathanjali Manoharar Temple, Vilamal, Thiruvarur
Pathanjali Manoharar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Vilamal Village in Thiruvarur Taluk in Thiruvarur District in Tamil Nadu, India. Presiding Deity is called as Pathanjali Manoharar and Mother is called as Madhurabashini / Thenmozhi Ammai (honey like speech) / Yaazhinum Men Mozhi Ammai (voice sweeter than Yazh, a musical instrument) / Manjulavaani / Dharini / Rajasimhasaneswari / Lalithambigai.
The temple is famous for Thiruvadi darshan of Lord Shiva. This temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This temple is the 207th Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 90th sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. This temple is situated on the southern bank of the river Oodampokki Aru.

History
The temple might have been in existence from 6th century CE. The temple was completely reconstructed in granite during the medieval Cholas and further extended during the Nayakas period. This temple is under the administrative control of Thirupugalur Velakurichi Adheenam. Vilamal was called as Thiruvilamar during 6th century CE.

The temple remains open from 07.30 am to 12.00 noon and 04.30
pm to 07.30 pm.
Festivals
The Thiruvadi darshan / Idathu Pada Dharisanam (viewing
of left foot of Lord Shiva) is the most important event in this temple. This
event is celebrated on Thiruvadhirai, the star on which Lord Shiva and goddess
Parvati merged to become Ardhanareeswarar. This event is celebrated in the
Tamil month of Margazhi (Dec-Jan). Generally, Annabishekam is celebrated in all
Shiva temples on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Aippasi (Oct–Nov) whereas
in this temple Annabishekam is performed on all new moon days. Especially, the
Annabishekam celebrated on Mahalaya Amavasya (the new moon day observed in the
Tamil month of Purattasi (Sep-Oct) is very famous here. Vaikasi
Visakam (May-Jun), Aani Thirumanjanam (Jun-Jul), Aadi Pooram (Jul-Aug), Aavani Vinayakar
Chaturthi (Aug-Sep), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct), Aippasi Skanda Shashti &
Annabishekam (Oct-Nov), Tirukarthikai & Karthigai Somavaram (Nov-Dec),
Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan), Thai Poosam & Pongal (Jan-Feb), Masi Shivarathri
(Feb-Mar) and Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr) are the other festivals celebrated
here.

Prayers
This temple is considered Pitru Dosha Nivarthi Sthalam. Those
who do not perform Tarpan / Sraddha for their parents, take bath in the
Kamalalayam tank in Tiruvarur and the Agni Theertham in this temple and then
perform Annabishekam on Amavasya days. They also light Moksha Deepam for the
salvation of their ancestors. Lighting Moksha Deepam on the Mahalaya Amavasya
(Sep-Oct) is considered very auspicious. It is believed that devotees having
the Srimukha (holy face) darshan of Thyagaraja at Thiruvarur and Sripada (holy
feet) darshan of Lord Shiva at this temple on the same day will be blessed with
salvation.
Devotees pray here for child boon, cure from incurable
diseases and removing obstacles in marriage alliances. Those facing speech
impairment place honey at the feet of Goddess Madhurabashini and consume the
honey after performing poojas. It is believed that consuming the honey will
cure their speech problems. Also, Devotees pray Goddess Madhurabashini for
excellence in education. Devotees worship Raja Durga for relief from the
adverse effects of planets Raahu & Kethu.

Connectivity
The Temple is located at about 3 Kms from Thiruvarur Bus
Stand, 3 Kms from Thiruvarur Railway Station, 4 Kms from Thiruvarur, 5 Kms from
Kavanur, 25 Kms from Needamangalam and 117 Kms from Trichy Airport. The temple
is situated on Thiruvarur to Needamangalam route via Kavanur. Town Buses going
to Thiruvarur Medical College stop at this place. Autos are available from
Thiruvarur Bus Stand to reach this temple.
