Anantheeswarar Temple, Chidambaram, Cuddalore
Anantheeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Chidambaram Town in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. This Temple is located very close Chidambaram Nataraja Temple. Presiding Deity is called as Anantheeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayagi. The temple is devoutly noted for its importance for relief from Naga Dosha-adverse aspect of snake planets.

The Temple
The Temple is east facing with an entrance arch. Presiding Deity is called as Anantheeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayagi. Utsavar is Somaskandar. Theertham associated with this Temple is Patanjali Theertham. Patanjali Theertham is situated just at the entrance. Left of this holy spring is the shrine of Lord Raja Chandikeswara. People pray to Lord Chandikeswara for royal status and the Vinayaka nearby for prosperity. This Shrine is present only here and nowhere else. The Uchi Kaala Poojai (Noon Puja) is considered auspicious.





Sun and Moon are next to each other in the corridor-prakara, hence this temple is especially significant for those facing the wrath of the ancestors due to their failure in performing tarpans to them at regular intervals as prescribed in the texts. They pray to Lord Shiva, Sun and Moon for reliefs. The temple is respected as a Nitya Amavasya – daily new moon – shrine.





There are Shrines of Lord Kanni Moola Ganapathi, Lord Muruga with Valli and Deivanai, Gajalakshmi, Saneeswara (Saturn), Navagrahas and Bhairava can be found in the outer prakaram. There are shrines of Vallaba Ganapathi, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Lingodhbava and Lord Brahmma around the sanctum. Lord Anjaneya appears on a pillar in worshipping form with his tail above his head. Some of the pillars in the temple carry sculptures of Yoga Sutras.

The Temple remains open from 06.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 05.00 p.m. to 08.30 p.m.
Festivals
Aani Tirumanjanam in June-July, Purattasi Navarathri in September-October, Skanda Sashti and Annabishekam in October-November, Tirukarthikai in November-December, Margazhi Tiruvadhirai in December-January and Shivarathri in February-March with procession are the festivals of the temple. As Patanjali was born in Pushya-Poosam star, special pujas are performed to Patanjali on the star days. He accompanies Lord in procession on Margazhi Thiruvadirai Festival day.
Prayers
Those afflicted by Naga Dosha-snake aspects, those seeking name and fame in education and arts pray to Sage Patanjali. They pray to Chandikeswara for royal status and Vinayaka for prosperity. Those who had missed Tarpan to their ancestors and facing their curses pray to Lord Shiva, Sun and Moon for remedy. Those seeking good match for their daughters pray to graceful eight-handed Mother Durga offering saris in yellow. Those afflicted with Naga doshas and seeking excellence in Yoga art worship the Rishi.
