Vadapalani Andavar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Murugan located at Vadapalani, well-known locality of Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. Vadapalani Andavar Temple also called as Vadapalani Murugan Temple. It was renovated in the 1920s and a Rajagopuram was built during that time. The temple has grown in popularity, which is believed to be in part due to the patronage of cinema stars. The Presiding Deity is in standing posture similar to the Palani Murugan. Hence this temple has come to known as Vada Palani ( Palani of North). This Temple is one of the well visited temples and a major landmark in the Chennai City.

History
The Temple was built around 1890, this temple began as a simple thatched shed and established for itself a name on par with ancient places of worship. Around 7,000 couples are married here each year.

Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 05.00 A.M. to 12.30 P.M. and 04.00 P.M. to 09.00 P.M. On the days of Maha Kandha Sashti, Kirthikai month, Vaikasi Visakam, Thaipoosam, Panguni Uthiram, first day of Chithirai, English New year etc., the Nadai shall remain open at all times. On Tuesdays the Nadai opens at 03.00 PM in the evenings.

Festivals
Chithirai Tamil New Year Day falling almost on April 14, a day before or after occasionally, Chithirai Poornima-full moon day in April-May 11-day procession festival in connection with Vaikasi Visakam in May-June, also in the months of Aani, Aadi and Avani Tamil months covering June; to September; 6-day Aipasi Skanda Sashti in October-November, Panguni Kruthika Laksharchana in March-April with 3-day float festival are grandly celebrated in the temple.
Vadapalani Murugan Temple is known for its ‘Panguni Uthiram’ Thiruvizha when the lord is taken out in a decorated boat (Theppam) in the Temple Tank. It is a wonderful occasion that should not be missed during the time the entire tank area and the temple are decorated with lights that illuminate and gives the place a divine and a mesmerizing look.
Prayers
Devotees pray to Lord Murugan to grace them in solving problems specially related to education, delayed marriage, child birth and health and so on. Devotees worship Lord Muruga and Lord Angaragan (Sevvai/ Mars) to solve their issues by offering special prayers, Abishekams and Archanai. It is strongly believed that those who are unable to lead a pilgrimage to the Palani can very well visit the Vadapalani Temple that shall provide all the grace and blessings of Palani Andavan to those who willfully and devotedly ask. Devotees tie a small swing in the fig tree as their prayer for a child. Since prayers get answered without any hassle, the temple rose to fame. Devotees, as offerings give silver, gold etc. in the Hundi. They also pierce spear in their tongue, offer sarees, tonsure their heads, pierce ears, take Paal Kavadi, Pushpa Kavadi and so on.
