Lakshminarayanar Temple, Kariseri, Virudhunagar
Lakshminarayanar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Vishnu located at Kariseri Village in Virudhunagar District of Tamilnadu. The Temple is almost 500 years old. Its reputation is great as the idol is of Navapashana material which is very rare to see. The crowd is huge on Saturdays. Vaigunda Ekadhasi is the most celebrated festival in this Temple.

Legends
Some Siddhas (enlightened souls) living in the Chathuragiri hills near Vatrayiruppu made a Vishnu statue with rare herbals mix called Navapashana and were worshipping him. The statue was washed away in floods once and reached the Kariseri village. The public, with great joy of finding a rare Vishnu idol, built a temple and began perform pujas and worship.
The Temple
Lord Lakshminarayana appears in a sitting form with one leg folded holding Mother Lakshmi on the lap. There are no shrines for other deities. This is a very small temple.  But its reputation is great as the idol is of Navapashana material which is very rare to see. The crowd is huge on Saturdays.
Temple Opening Time
The temple is open on Saturdays only from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Prayers
Generally people undertaking a fast for a specific purpose do so for a period covering a week of seven days or a Mandalam covering 48 days. In Kariseri, devotees undertake a fasting 28 days ending with the Thiruvonam star day in the month of Margazhi – December-January, to realize their prayers. Special pujas are performed to the Lord this day. Pujas are performed specially for relief from the adverse aspects of the planets. It is the faith of the devotees that consuming the water (Abisheka Theertham) would cure them from ailments. Devotees offer Thirumanjanam, Thulasi abishek to the Perumal, mother.

Connectivity
Devotees has to take a bus from Virudhunagar to Sivakasi and alight at Mepco Engineering College and taken an auto to the temple. Nearest Railway Station is located at Virudhunagar and Nearest Airport is located at Madurai.
