Legends
As per
legend, two monkeys helped in building a bridge across the Cauvery river. The
two monkeys took rest in an Illupai forest nearby after the completion of the
bridge works and died in that spot itself. People believed that Lord Anjaneya
himself came in the form of monkeys and had helped them in the bridge
construction works. The villages built a temple in memory of these two monkeys.
Thus, the temple came to be called as Irattai Anjaneyar Temple.
