Irattai Anjaneyar Temple, Melapathy, Mayiladuthurai

Irattai Anjaneyar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman located in Melapathy Village near Sembanarkoil Town in Tharangampadi Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. The temple is situated on the banks of Cauvery river. Farmers from this region pray to Lord Anjaneya for good agricultural yields.

Legends

As per legend, two monkeys helped in building a bridge across the Cauvery river. The two monkeys took rest in an Illupai forest nearby after the completion of the bridge works and died in that spot itself. People believed that Lord Anjaneya himself came in the form of monkeys and had helped them in the bridge construction works. The villages built a temple in memory of these two monkeys. Thus, the temple came to be called as Irattai Anjaneyar Temple.

The temple is situated on Mayiladuthurai to Poompuhar route.
