Yogeeswarar Shiva Temple, Mangaimadam, Nagapattinam
Yogeeswarar Shiva Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Mangaimadam Village in Nagapattinam District of Tamilnadu. This is one of the Ekadasa (11) Rudhra kshetrams. This is a Guru Sthalam near Thirunangur (Sirkazhi). Sri Abaya Anjaneyar temple and Sri Pompuli Amman temple are also located nearby.
Mangai Madam was the headquarters of King Thirumangai, a Chieftain of the small kingdom known as Thiruvaali within the greater Chola Empire. He offered food (Thathiyaaraadhanai) to 1008 people for a year to embrace Vaishnavism and marry Kumudhavalli, at Mangai Madam. The place is called Mangai Madam because of Thiru Mangai Azhwar and his annachatirm here to feed people.
Presiding Deity is called as Yoganatha Swamy or Yogeeswaran and Mother is called as Yogambal. The Temple is facing west but the entrance to the temple is located at east. Vinayagar Shrine is located at the Temple entrance. Mother shrine is facing south and presiding deity is facing west. There is a big jack fruit in the North West corner in the prakaram.
Shrines for Vinayagar and Gyana Poongothai are located under this Tree. Shrines for Murugan and Mahalakshmi are located in the North West side of the prakaram. Shrines for Bhairavar, Suryan and Durgai are located in North East side of the prakaram. Durga facing west is a rare feature.
Mangai Madam is 3 kms from Thirunangur and 2 kms from Thiruvenkadu. Nearest Railway Station is located at Sirkazhi and Nearest Airport is located at Trichy.
