Adhikesava Perumal Temple, Thiruvattar – Festivals
The
Kerala tantram is the protocol of worship conducted here, by Namboodris of
Kerala. Four services are offered each day. There are two annual 10 day festivals
at Panguni and Aippasi, the first one in the month of Aippasi, where the
Theerthavari (Aarattu) is held in the river Tambraparani near the Shiva Tali.
The Golden Garuda Sevai is held during both these festivals. Krishna Jayanthi,
Vaikuntha Ekadasi, Aavani Tiruvonam, Kalabham in the month of Thai, and the
Perunthamritu Poojai (Aadi and Thai) on the eve of the summer and winter
solstices are some of the festivals celebrated here. The Utsava images are
taken out in procession every day.
Avani Thiruvonam
and Vaikunta Ekadesi are celebrated with pomp and glory. Paal Payasam
(Milk Kheer), Aval and Appam are delicious prasadhams at this temple. 12 day
Kalapa Pooja festival in Thai Onam, Purattasi Saturdays in September-October,
are the other festivals celebrated in the temple. Pushpanjali is yet another
important Utsavam done in this temple where lots of flowers are offered to the
Perumal. The pujas are done in the same manner as that of the Sri
Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Thiruvananthapuram.
