Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane – Literary Mention

Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane – Literary Mention
The Lord had been praised by two of the earliest Alwars viz. Thirumazhisai Alwar and Peyalvar. Lord has been praised later by Thirumangai Mannan or Kaliyan, who is considered to be the last of the Alwars chronologically and his year of birth would appear to be 476 A.D. according to the era of Salivahana Saka. Saint Tirumangai Azhwar had sung the glory of Lord of this temple in his Mangalasasanam hymns.  Says the saint, “I found my Lord in Tiruvallikeni. He is a happy partner of the flower-born Mahalakshmi. He is Lord of the world. A trusted spouse to Nappinnai and he was the envoy of the Pandavas. He is my guide and Lord”.
The Azhwars have sung Tamil verses (Paasurams) about all the deities enshrined in this temple namely Narasimha, Parthasarathy, Gajendra Varada, Ranganatha and Rama. This is rare as usually only the main deity is praised. Sri Thyagaraja Swamigal and Sri Muthuswami Dishithar of the Carnatic Music Trinity, Mahakavi Bharathi had sung the glory of the Lord Parthasarathy. It is generally accepted that Bharathi’s Kannan songs are on Lord of the temple.
