Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane – Yoga Narasimha Shrine

Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane – Yoga Narasimha Shrine
Thellia Singa Perumal (Sri Narasimha Swamy) Shrine is facing west and located behind Parthasarathy Swamy shrine. Presiding Deity is called as Narasimha Swamy / Thellia Singhar. There is separate entrance and flag post (Dwajasthambam) for Lord Narasimha Swamy. Presiding Deity is in Sitting Yoga Posture. Utsavar is Thellia Singhar. The Utsavar, Azhagia Singar, has a serene face and appears with Ahwana Hastham (beckoning the devotees) and Abhaya Hastham (Showering his grace in abundance).
The bells in the sanctum for Yoga Narasimha do not have tongues as this would disturb the Yogic state of the deity. Yoga Narasimha in the separate shrine is the first deity of the temple. Day’s first puja is dedicated to him. He had granted darshan to Sage Athri. The bells in the shrine do not have the sound producing tongue in them as sound would be a hindrance to Yoga of the Lord.  They are just fixed on the shrine door simply for a show. Devotees offer salt and pepper on a platform behind Yoga Narasimha praying for remedy to the illness they face.
It is believed that Lord Narasimha was pleased with the Tapas of Athri Maharishi and at the request of the Maharishi made Brindaranya his abode. Devotees pray for good health and prosperity. There is a separate flag post for Lord Narasimha. Vasanthotsavam and Brahmotsavam for Lord Narasimha are celebrated in May- June. Narasimha Jayanti is celebrated in May.
