Agastheeshwarar
Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Puthirankottai Village in
Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is known as Agastheeshwarar
and Mother is known as Muthambigai. This Temple is more than 1000 years old.
This Temple had been renovated at various periods by Chola, Pandiya, Pallava
and Sambuvaraya Kings, fact supported by 31 inscriptions available in the
Temple. The Temple is currently under renovation at Puthirankottai in the Mathuranthagam
– Marakkanam route.
It is
believed that Lingam was installed and worshipped by Sage Agasthiyar and worshipped
by Markandeya Maharishi. A place where childless couples are blessed with
children with plenty of successful couples returning with prayer fulfillment
poojas. The Temple lies in the route of Mathuranthagam / Melmaruvathur / Chittamur
to Chunampet / Vennangupet / Marakkanam. The temple is located at about 15 kms
from Vennangupet on ECR; around 24 kms from Mathuranthagam.
