Kailasanathar Temple, Brahmmadesam, Thirunelveli
Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva
located at Brahmmadesam Village near Ambasamudram in Thirunelveli District of
Tamilnadu. Brahmmadesam is located at
about 3 kms North of Ambasamudram located on the southern bank of River
Karunai. This is a Thevara Vaipu Sthalam and the sixth Thirumurai of
Thirunavukkarasar refers this temple as Ayneeswaram. This is also the birth
place of Sri Sarvagna Atmendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the second Acharya of Sri
Kanchi Kamakodi Peetam.
This
Temple is one among the Adi Nava Kailayam shrines and dedicated to Surya (sun
god). The many of the temple structures were added by Cholas, Pandyas and
Nayaka monarchs. Dharma Nandhi in this temple is the largest in Thirunelveli
district with intricate sculpture. The Ghatana Nadi Mahatmiyam (Purana) takes
note of three Swayambu (self-emanating) Shivalingams of Sivasailam,
Thiruvaleeswararm and Brahmmadesam emerged at the same time.
