Aadhi Chokkanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Simmakkal to the North of Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai City in Madurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Chokkanathar and Mother is called as Meenakshi. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Of the 64 divine events (Tiruvilayadal) described in the sacred epic Tiruvilayadal Puranam by Saint Paranjothi Munivar, this temple is about marking the boundaries of Madurai.

The place is also called as Vada Thiru Aalavai. Pancha Bhoota Sthalams of Madurai refers to five temples dedicated to Shiva, each representing a manifestation of the five prime elements of nature: land, water, air, sky, and fire. Pancha indicates five, Bhoota means elements, and Sthalam means place. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Chokkanathar and Mother is called as Meenakshi. Sthala Vriksham is Kadamba Tree. Theertham associated with this Temple is Pottramarai Kulam.

Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and from 4.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.
Aipasi Poornima-full moon day in October-November; Aadi Pooram in July-August; Navarathri in September-October and Poornima-full moon day Santhabishekam and special pujas are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
It is the firm belief of the devotees that their prayers for wedding and child boon would be responded by Lord within 48 days – a Mandalam. The Temple is located at about 100 meters from Simmakkal Bus Stop, 600 meters from Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, 2 Kms from Koodal Azhagar Temple, 2 Kms from Periyar Bus Stand, 5 Kms from Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Terminus, 2 Kms from Madurai Railway Junction, 9 Kms from Thiruparankundram and 12 Kms from Madurai International Airport.
