Karaikandeswarar Temple, Kanji, Thiruvannamalai
Karaikandeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva
located at Kanji Village in Chengam Taluk in Thiruvannamalai District of
Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Karaikandeswarar and Mother is called
as Periyanayagi Amman. This
Temple is considered as one the Saptha Kailaya Sthalams established and
worshipped by Lord Muruga on the northern bank of river Cheyyar. Like the other Karaikandeswarar Temple, here
also Cheyyar river flows towards North and hence this is considered equivalent
to Kasi.

The
Temple
The Temple was constructed in
the Dravidian style of architecture. Deity is called as Karaikandeswarar and Mother is
called as Periyanayagi Amman. There are shrines for Lakshmi Narayana
Perumal, Thiripatha Moorthy, Ganesha, Aiyappan, Nayanmars, Lord Murugan with
his consorts Valli & Devasena and Saptha Kannikas in the Temple premises. Karaikandeswarar
Idols of the other Saptha Karaikandeswarar temples can also found in the temple
premises. The temple has four daily rituals at various times from 6:00 a.m. to
9:00 p.m.

Panguni Uthiram Festival
celebrated during month of Panguni is the most famous festival here.

The Temple is located at about 1 Km from Kanji Bus Stop, 3 Kms from Kizhpalur
Kootu Road Bus Stop, 3 Kms from Kadaladi Bus Stop, 4 Kms from Kadaladi, 24 Kms
from Chengam, 24 Kms from Thiruvannamalai, 22 Kms from Thiruvannamalai Railway
Station, 187 Kms from Chennai Airport and 196 Kms from Chennai. There are regular buses from Tiruvannamalai to
Parvathamalai via Kadaladi and Thenmathimangalam. Devotees can get down at
Kadaladi and take an auto to reach this place. This place is also directly
connected to Thiruvannamalai and nearby areas by bus but the frequency of buses
are less.
