Festivals
The
Aavani (August-September) festival begins on the first Friday of the full moon fortnight
and celebrated the next Friday. There will be pujas, public feeding, and other
festivities. On Saturday, devotees offer Pongal (pudding) to the Goddess. Amman
goes in procession throughout the night. Every house celebrates the festival. The
noteworthy feature of the festival is that people of all religions participate equally.
Special pujas to Lord Vinayaka on Sankatahara Chaturthi days, Rahukala puja on
Fridays – 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m-, Special pujas on last Fridays of the month,
special pujas to Lord Muruga on Tuesdays, Dakshinamurthy puja on Thursdays are organized
by individual devotees (Upayadararars). They contribute for Aavani festival too.
