Subramanyaswamy Temple, Thiruparankundram – Literary Mention

Subramanyaswamy Temple, Thiruparankundram – Literary Mention
Saint Gnana Sambandar, the famous Shaiva Saint of the 7th Century, has visited Thirupparamkunram and has sung Devaram on Lord Shiva. Probably, this Shiva temple is the present temple in the main road near the entrance to the Thirupparamkunram Murugan temple. The structure is quite old and ancient. Gnana Sambandar has met the three Tamil chiefs, the Chera, the Chola and the Pandya in this temple and has blessed all the three of them. Nayanmars Sundarar and Sambandar composed the Thevara Pathigam here.
Sangam Poet Nakkeerar sang many poems on this lord. Thirupugazh, Kandapuranam and other works speak of the glory of this shrine. The six most sacred abodes of Murugan was mentioned in Tamil Sangam literature, Tirumurugattrupadai, written by Nakkeerar and in Thirupugazh, written by Arunagirinathar. The place and the Lord are praised by renowned saints and poets as Nakkeerar, Arunagirinathar, Pampan Swamigal, Thirugnana Sambandar, Sundarar, Thirunavukkarasar, and Manickavasagar. This is the 217th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 3rd Sthalam of Pandya Nadu.
