Vanmeeganathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Narasingamangalam Village in Thittagudi Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Vanmeeganathar and Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari.
Legends
Malaiyanur:
It is said that Malaimans, local chieftain during Chola rule, had lived in this village from ancient times. Hence, the village was called as Malaiman Oor (the abode of Malaimans). Later got corrupted to Malaiyanur.
Vanmeeganathar:
Vanmeegam means ant hill. As Lord Shiva appeared in the form of ant hill. He came to be called as Vanmeeganathar.
The Temple
This Temple is facing towards east. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Vanmeeganathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. She is housed in a separate east facing shrine.
Her Shrine consists of Mukha Mandapam and Sanctum. Her Shrine is situated to the left side of the sanctum. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing her shrine. There are shrines for Vinayaga, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Maha Lakshmi, Kasi Viswanathar, Navagrahas and Bhairavar in the temple premises.
Connectivity
The Temple is located at about 2 Kms from Mangalur, 18 Kms from Thozhuthur, 18 Kms from Veppur, 23 Kms from Thittagudi, 33 Kms from Koothakudi Railway Station, 39 Kms from Pennadam Railway Station and 104 Kms from Trichy Airport. Devotees need to travel from Veppur towards Athur, take a left turn after crossing Rettakurichi towards Mangalur. The temple is about 2 Kms from Mangalur.
