Saneeswara Bhagavan Temple, Kuchanur – Legends
Kuchanur:
As per legend, King Dinakaran ruled Kalinga country with its capital Maninagar. His adopted son, Chandravadanan through astrology predicted that his father was suffering from the ill effects of Saturn for 71/2 years. Chandravadanan decided to end the problems of his father. He went to the nearby forest, made an image of Sani in iron and offered intense prayers in the midst of Shenbaga Sandalwood and Kongu trees near the bank of Surabhi river to invoke the blessings of Lord Saneeswara to set his father free from the ill effects of Saturn. Pleased with his prayers, Sani appeared before him and granted him his wishes. Chandravadanan made a small temple with a kind of grass called Kucha and hence this place came to be called Kuchanur.
