Bhadra Rameswarar Temple, Kanchipuram
Bala Bhadra Rameswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple
dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kanchipuram City in Kanchipuram District of
Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Bala Bhadra Rameswarar and Mother is called
as Kamakshi. This is one of the 108 Shiva temples mentioned in Kanchi Puranam.
The Temple is also called as Bala Bhadresam. This Temple
is situated amidst a coconut grove at Thirumettrali Street of Pillaiyar Palayam
at Kanchipuram.
Legends
Lord Balarama, during the course of his pilgrimage to
Kanchi reached River Saraswathi and came to know about the greatness of Kanchi
from the Sages present there. He came to Kanchi Ekambam and paid a visit to
Sage Upamanyu in Ekambam. As per the advice of Sage Upamanyu, Lord Balarama
worshipped Lord Ekambaranathar and installed Shiva Lingam in the name of Bala
Bhadra Rameswarar and worshipped Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva appeared before
Balarama and blessed him.
The Temple
This temple is facing towards east, situated amidst a
coconut grove. It is of brick structure. Presiding Deity is called as Bala
Bhadra Rameswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form
of Lingam housed on round Avudaiyar. Kamakshi Amman of Kanchi Kamakshi temple
is considered as the consort of Lord Shiva. Idols of Krishna and Balarama can
be seen in the temple premises.
