Brahma Nandeeswarar Temple is a Hindu
Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thirumettrali near Patteeswaram in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of
Tamil Nadu. The
Temple is situated on the northern banks of T.R. Pattinam River. The temple is considered as Parihara Sthalam
for Naga Doshams and Brahmmahathi Doshams.

It is
believed that Lord Brahma and Naga Kanni worshipped Lord Shiva of this Temple.

The Temple
This
temple is facing towards east. The entire temple is of brick construction. The
Temple might have boasted a three-tiered Rajagopuram in ancient times. The
remains of the foundation of the Rajagopuram can be seen at the entrance. Nandi
and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists
of Mukha Mandapam and Sanctum.
Presiding
Deity is called as Brahma Nandeeswarar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form
of tall Lingam. The Bana is housed in a square Avudaiyar. Naga Kanni,
Lingodbhava, Dakshinamoorthy, Durga and Brahma are the Koshta idols located
around the sanctum walls. All the idols in the Koshta are dated back to 10th
Century CE.
Brahma
Idol in this temple is famous next to Thirupattur
Brahma Temple. Brahma idol was lost and recovered within a month. Due to
safety reasons, Brahma Idol is kept in Patteeswaram Temple. Naga Kanni can be
seen in sitting posture in Koshta. Hence, the temple is considered as Parihara
Sthalam for Naga Doshams. The Vimana is of two tiers. Mother is housed in a separate
south facing shrine. Her name is not known.

Kms from Swamimalai, 8 Kms from Kumbakonam, 9 Kms from Kumbakonam Bus Stand, 9
Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 35 Kms from Thanjavur and 90 Kms from
Trichy Airport. Patteeswaram is situated on the Kumbakonam to
Aavoor route. Town buses 8, 11, 25, 35, 61, 62 & 67 are available from
Kumbakonam to reach this temple. Also, mini buses are available from Kumbakonam,
Swamimalai and Darasuram. The Temple is situated on Patteeswaram to Papanasam
Route.
