Shenbaga Devi Temple, Courtallam, Thirunelveli
Shenbaga
Devi Temple is located at about 5 Kms away from Tirukutrala Nathar temple, Festivals
of any sort will be done only after worshipping Goddess Shenbaga Devi. Legend
has it that the Pradhishta here was made by the great Sage Agastya. The Devi,
believed to be a reincarnation of Goddess Durga, is worshipped in the form of
Parasakthi here. The temple can be accessed from the Main Falls in Courtallam
via a 3 km walking. There is also a beautiful waterfall called Shenbaga Devi
waterfalls close to the Devi temple.
During
Chitra full moon day festivals will be celebrated for goddess Shenbaga Devi. Shenbaga
Devi Temple is one of the most revered places in the region. Shenbaga flowers
can be bought from hawkers on the way as an offering to the Goddess. There are
now restrictions to visit the temple during peak seasons. Pilgrims are required
to get written permission from the Kutraleeswarar Temple office which opens
only at 10 AM.
Courtallam
is located at about 7 Kms from Tenkasi, 15 Kms from Panpoli, 4 Kms from Ilanji,
7 Kms from Sengottai, 35 Kms from Papanasam, 40 Kms from Ambasamudram, 65 Kms
from Thirunelveli, 165 Kms from Madurai and 108 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram. Kuttralam
is easily reachable from any corner of Tamilnadu. Bus facilities are conveniently
available to Kuttralam from Madurai and from Thirunelveli.
Lot of
Town and mini buses are available to Kutralam from Tenkasi during Saaral season
and frequency is less during non-season. Tenkasi is located on the bus and
train route to Sengottai from Thirunelveli, Madurai, and Chennai etc. Nearest
Railway Station is located at Tenkasi and Sengottai. Nearest Airport is located
at Madurai and Thiruvananthapuram.
