Adithavarneswarar Temple, Melaseval, Thirunelveli
Adithavarneswarar
Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Melaseval in Thirunelveli
District of Tamilnadu. The main deity in the temple is Swayambu Lingam
known as Adithavarneswarar and his consort Soundra Ammal. There is
a Dwajasthambam as we enter and Nandi to front. Ganesha is known as Anugnai Vinayakar. This Temple is also called as Megalingeswarar
Temple.
As per
the stone inscription found in the Megalingeswarar temple in the village, it is
said that during the Kollam year 762, the Chieftain had constructed the
praharams and separate sannidhi for the Goddess. The present Kollam year is
1178 which means that the Siva temple is 416 years old. Annual 10 days festival
is conducted in Megalingeswarar temple also.
The
temple is located at about 26 Kms from Thirunelveli, 8 Kms from Cheranmahadevi,
24 Kms from Ambasamudram, 14 Kms from Veeravanallur, 185 Kms from Madurai, 73
Kms from Thoothukudi and 155 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram. There are buses for
every 10 minutes between Tirunelveli and Papanasam. One can get down at
Melaseval (about 20minutes from Tirunelveli). From Melaseval main road, autos
are available to reach the temple.

Tirunelveli Junction, direct bus to Melaseval Krishna Temple - Bus Numbers: 14,
14A, 14C, 34G. From Cheran Maha Devi, Mini bus is available for every hour from
9am. Nearest Railway Station is located at Cheranmahadevi, Ambasamudram and
Veeravanallur. Nearest Airport is located at Madurai, Thoothukudi and Thiruvananthapuram.
