Agastheeswarar
Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Villivakkam, well-known
locality of Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Agastheeswarar
and Mother is called as Swarnambikai. The temple belongs to Chola
period. It is believed to have been built by Kulothunga Chola in the 12th
century CE. It is the oldest temple of Villivakkam area and is one of the
oldest temples in the entire city. Angaraka has special status in this temple
and is called as Angaraka Parihara Sthalam.
This
temple is one among the Navagraha temples of Chennai (or Thondai Mandalam) for

The Temple
remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. with
4 Kaala poojas.
Festivals
10-day
Brahmmotsavam following Vaikasi Visakam in May-June; 1008 Conch abishekam in
Karthikai (November-December and Panguni Wedding Festival in March-April are
the festivals celebrated in the temple.
Prayers
Those
facing obstacles in marriage due to adverse Mars effects and of shy nature pray
in the temple. Realizing their wishes, devotees perform special abishekam to
Lord and Mother with Vastras and sandal abishek to Lord Veerabhadra with betel
leaves garlands.
