Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple is a Hindu Temple
dedicated to Goddess Sakthi located in George Town area of Chennai, the capital of the South
Indian state of Tamil
Nadu. The Temple is located in Aadhiappa Naickan Street. Even
though the main temple of Kanyaka Parameswari is located in Andhra Pradesh
state, there is a separate temple for Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari in Parrys area
near the old Kothawal Chavadi Market. This is an area where a lot of Andhra -
Telugu speaking population is residing.

The
Temple
Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple is one of the oldest
temples of Chennai city. In those days, it would be very difficult to get into
the temple as the temple entrance was facing the busy wholesale market. After
the market was shifted to Koyambedu, the temple looks more elegant and the area
appears to be calm. It is a small temple with a beautiful idol of Goddess in
the sanctum.
There is a separate shrine for the processional (Utsava)
idol of Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari. Navagraha also found in this temple. The
legend has it that along with Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari, Vaisya couples from
102 Gothrams took fire bath and attained salvation. The names of these 102
couples have been inscribed in the temple.

This Temple is located at the intersection of Anna
Pillai street, Aadhiappa Street and Acharyappan Street near Broadway,
Parrys. The Temple is located at about 400 meters from Lone Square Bus
Stop, 1 Km from Broadway Bus Stop, 1 Km from Parrys Corner Bus Stop, 1,5 Kms
from Chennai Beach Railway Station, 1 Km from Mannady Metro Station, 2 Kms from
Chennai Central Railway Station, 5 Kms from Egmore Railway Station, 12 Kms from
Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and 20 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple
is located very close to the Mannady Metro Station. You can proceed on foot to
this Temple from the station. From other parts of the city, you can take a
Cabs, Auto Rickshaw, Bus, Local Trains and Metro Trains to reach the Temple.
