Natarajar Temple, George Town, Chennai
Natarajar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in George Town area of Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is situated in Linghi Chetty Street very near to Mallikeswarar Temple. This temple is under the control of HR & CE of Tamilnadu.






History
This Shiva Temple was built by Subbaraya Bhakthar who had no male child with his first wife. So, he constructed this temple with a Shiva Lingam and Amman and worshiped Lord Shiva. After few years he married a Vaishnava lady and added Pandurangan and Anantha Sayana Perumal Sannadhi. Even then there was no male child born. Finally, he made a will to donate all his property to this temple and died. There is a sculpture of him on the mandapam pillar and a photo is available at the temple. He worked as a treasurer in British East India Company.





The Temple
The Temple is facing west with a small Dwajasthambam, Balipeedam and Nandhi are in the front mandapam facing the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Natarajar. Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai are the niche idols located around the sanctum walls. Dwarabalakars are at the entrance of the sanctum. Mother is called as Sivakami.





There are shrines for Natarajar, Thillai Vinayagar, Sandikeswarar, Naalvar with Sekkizhar, Pandurangan, Anantha Sayana Perumal and Lord Subramaniyar with his consorts Valli and Deivanai in the Temple premises. Vahana Mandapam and Navagrahas are located in the back side of the sanctum in a madras terrace building.

The Temple remains open from 08.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 06.00 PM to 08.00 PM.

The Temple is located at about 100 meters from Mallikeswarar Temple on the same Linghi Chetty street. The Temple is located at about 500 meters from Collector Office Bus Stop, 700 meters from Chennai Beach Railway Station, 1.5 Kms from Parrys Corner Bus Stop, 1 Km from Mannady Metro Station, 4 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station, 6 Kms from Egmore Railway Station, 13 Kms from Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and 21 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is located very close to the Mannady Metro Station. You can proceed on foot to this Temple from the station. From other parts of the city, you can take a Cabs, Auto Rickshaw, Bus, Local Trains and Metro Trains to reach the Temple.
