Chidambareswarar Temple, Pulivalam, Cuddalore
Chidambareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Lord Shiva located in Pulivalam Village in Thittagudi Taluk in Cuddalore
District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Chidambareswarar and
Mother is called as Shivagami. The temple is situated on the banks of
Wellington Lake.
Legends
It is believed that Sage Vyagrapada (Pulikkal Munivar)
worshipped Lord Shiva of this Temple. Sage Vyagrapada performed circumbulation
around this shrine. Hence, the village came to be called as Pulivalam.
History
The Temple was believed to be built by Cholas and got
completely destroyed. The Villagers later on built a small temple.
The Temple
This Temple is facing towards east. Nandi and Balipeedam
can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Artha
Mandapam and Sanctum. Idol of Vinayaga and a small shrine for Lord Murugan can
be seen at the entrance of the Artha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as
Chidambareswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of
Lingam.
Mother is called as Shivagami. She is housed in the
sanctum along with the presiding deity. There is no Vimana over the sanctum. Dakshinamoorthy
can be found in the Koshta. Chandikeswarar Shrine can be seen in his usual
location. Navagrahas can be found in a shed. Planet Jupiter (Guru) in the
Navagraha group is depicted with a beard and moustache.
Connectivity
The temple is located at about 5 Kms from Thittagudi, 5
Kms from Thittagudi Bus Stand, 20 Kms from Pennadam Railway Station and 107 Kms
from Trichy Airport. The temple is situated on Thittagudi to Kallur Route.
