Mathrupureeswarar Temple, Mangalampettai, Cuddalore
Mathrupureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Lord Shiva located in Mangalampettai Village in Virudhachalam Taluk in
Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as
Mathrupureeswarar and Mother is called as Maragadambikai.
Legends
As per legend, Lord Shiva attended a pregnant lady and
performed her delivery like her mother. Hence, Lord Shiva came to be called as
Mathrupureeswarar.
History
It is said that the people engaged in the renovation
activities of Virudhachalam Vriddhagiriswarar Temple were settled in
Mangalampettai. They built this Shiva Temple for their worship.
The Temple
The
Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum. Presiding
Deity is called as Mathrupureeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the
sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Maragadambikai. She is
housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is
situated on the Maha Mandapam.
There are shrines and idols of Ganapathy, Chandikeswarar,
Naalvar, Navagrahas, Dakshinamoorthy, Bhairavar and Lord Murugan with his
consorts Valli & Deivanai can be seen in the temple premises. There is a
Lingam under Sthala Vriksham, Vilwa tree in the temple premises. Nandi and
Balipeedam can be seen facing this Lingam.
Prayers
People pray here for realization of their wishes, child
boon, safe delivery and to remove marriage obstacles.

The Temple is located at about 250 meters from
Mangalampettai Main Bus Stop, 5 Kms from Ulundurpet, 10 Kms from Ulundurpet
Railway Station, 14 Kms from Virudhachalam Junction Railway Station, 16 Kms
from Virudhachalam, 68 Kms from Cuddalore and 132 Kms from Trichy Airport. The
Temple is situated on Virudhachalam to Ulundurpet Route.
