Mudhu Kundreeswarar Temple, Mudanai – The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with a three-tiered Rajagopuram. The temple is enclosed by compound wall. Lord Vinayaga seated on his Moonjuru vahana and Lord Muruga with his consorts Valli and Deivanai can be seen at the entrance in Rajagopuram. Bali Peedam, Dhwaja Sthambam (flag staff) and Adhikara Nandhi can be found immediately after the Rajagopuram. The Temple consists of Sanctum, Artha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam.


Presiding Deity is called as Mudhu Kundreeswarar / Pazha Malai Nathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. He appears in Sadasiva form. The Linga is about 2.5 feet tall. Dakshinamoorthy and Durga are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Lord Dakshinamurthy appears under the banyan tree teaching his four disciples with Muyalagan the symbol of ignorance under his feet.


Mother is called as Periya Nayaki. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated on the Maha Mandapam. The temple is so designed to enable the devotees to have the darshan of Lord Pazha Malai Nathar and Mother Periya Nayaki in different locations by standing in the Maha Mandapam of the temple.


There is a shrine for Kanni Moola Vinayaka in the southwest corner of the temple premises. Chandikeswarar Shrine can be found in his usual location. He is about 1.5 feet tall. There is a shrine for Lord Murugan to the north of Chandikeswarar Shrine. He is 12 armed. Lord Muruga with his weapon Vel in the right hand, an arrow, sword, flag, staff, and a bow in his left hand, lotus etc.


There is a shrine for Lord Vishnu to the north of Lord Murugan Shrine. Anjaneya Idol of about 1.5 feet tall can be seen facing Lord Vishnu Shrine. There is a shrine for Mother Durga in the temple premises. She is four-armed holding discus and conch (upper) and assuring sign by the lower right and the left placed on the hip.


There are shrines for Kasi Viswanathar, Viswanathar, Vinayaga, Bhairavar, Suryan, Chandran and Navagrahas can be seen in the temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Kondrai Tree. It is situated on the backside of sanctum. Theertham associated with this temple is Nanneer Kulam.
