Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 06.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and 04.00 PM to 08.00 PM.

Festivals

This temple is the place where Saivite Saint Poet Thiru Gnana Sambandar attained Mukthi immediately after his wedding. The episode of the Saint Poet’s wedding is played out in its entirety similar to a traditional Brahmin wedding on Vaikasi Kettai / Moolam star day in the Tamil Month of Vaikasi followed by the event of his merging with the Lord the next morning. The sequence of the sacred thread ceremony of Gnana Sambandar, the entire wedding festivities, his procession around the streets of Achalpuram and finally his merging with the Lord on the night of his wedding were enacted in the most traditional way at the temple. Mahashivaratri is also celebrated in the Tamil month of Maasi (Feb-Mar). Navaratri is also celebrated in a grand manner. Every Monday morning, a special Prarthana pooja is performed to fulfil one’s wishes. This pooja is performed for 10 Mondays followed by a special Abhishekam on the 11th Monday. Monthly Pradoshams are also observed regularly.

Prayers

This temple is considered to be a Mukthi Sthalam. Everyone worshipping Lord who embraced Saint Sambandar through the Shiva Jyoti is sure to awarded total salvation. Those worshipping in this temple will become free of all adverse effects falling on them. Sacred Ash-Vibhuti is the Prasad offered in the Mother shrine of the temple. Applying this on the body cures the devotee of all illness, frees him/her from sins and poverty and ensures the Mangalya longevity of women, according to belief.

It is believed that worshiping Lord Rina Vimochana here will clear all our debts and remove obstacles from marriage proposals. It is also believed that those seeking Santhana Prapthi (child boon) can pray to this lord. It is considered especially auspicious to worship him on Mondays. It is significant to note that Lord Rina Vimochana is present only in three temples – Thirucherai, Thiruvarur and Achalpuram.
