Uyyakondan
Thirumalai Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Uyyakondan
Thirumalai on the banks of Uyyakondan River in Trichy District of Tamilnadu.
The place is also called as Thiru Karkudi, Thirumalainallur. Presiding Deity is
called as Uyyakondar / Ujjevanatha Swamy / Uchchi Nathar / Mukteesar / Karpaganathar.
There are two mothers namely Anjanakshi or Maivizhiyammai and Balambikai.
This place is located on the way to Vayloor Murugan Temple.
The
temple is located on a rock about 30 metres (98 ft.) tall and is
surrounded by granite walls. The site was originally called as 'Karkudi'
which means an adobe on rocks. The temple has four daily rituals at various
times from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and four yearly festivals on its calendar.
The Brahmotsavam festival is celebrated during the day of the Magam (February -
March) is the most prominent festival.
The
presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical
work, the Thevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. Appar, Sundarar and Sambandhar have revered the
temple in their verses in Devaram. This is the 121st Devaram Paadal
Petra Shiva Sthalam and 4th Sthalam on the south side of river
Cauvery of Chozha Nadu.

Connectivity
The
Temple is located at about 4 Kms from Trichy Central Bus Stand, 6 Kms from Chatram
Bus Stand, 6 Kms from Trichy Railway Station, 10 Kms from Trichy Airport, 10
Kms from Trichy and 6 Kms from Kumaravayalur. The temple is located on Vayalur
road. Take the road next to the Medical College and Chinthamani supermarket in Woraiyur
and in 3 kms once you cross the Uyyakondan River you can see the temple on the
right. The temple is situated on a hillock and is actually a fortress. Town
buses from Trichy Chatram bus stand to Vayloor passes through this place. From
Central bus stand one has to get down at Government Hospital to
catch bus to Vayloor. Nearest Railway Station and Airport are located in
Trichy.
