Ambaravaneswarar Temple,
Koohur – The Temple
This is an east facing temple
with three tiered Rajagopuram. Balipeedam and Nandi can be found after the
entrance facing the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Ambaravaneswarar / Aaditheswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of
Lingam. Sanctum is guarded by Dwarapalakas. Vinayaga, Nataraja, Durvasa,
Dakshinamoorthy, Brahma, Ashta Bhuja Durga, Lingodbhava, and Gangalamoorthy are
the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. There is a parrot in Durga’s
Hand. It is a unique aspect of the Temple. It is believed that if any prayers
made to this parrot, it will convey to Mother and fulfil the wishes.
Chandikeswarar shrine can be
found in his usual location. Mother is called as Parvathavarthini /
Mangalambikai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is
situated to the left side of the sanctum and to the right side of the entrance.
She is in standing posture little bit leaned towards front side. She is having
four hands. Her shrine was renovated by Arunachala Chettiyar. Arunachala
Chettiyar and his wife idol can be found in the Mandapam.
There are shrines and idols of
Vinayaga, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Nataraja, Ashta
Bhuja Durga, Arjuna, Maha Lakshmi, Sambandar, Navagrahas, Karaikal Ammaiyar,
Bhairavar and Periyandavar in the Temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Mango
Tree. Theertham associated with this Temple is River Cauvery & T.R Pattinam
River.
