Brahmapureeswarar Temple is a
Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Esanur Village near Thiruvaimur
in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding
Deity is called as Brahmapureeswarar and Mother is called as Soundara Nayagi / Sugantha
Kunthalambigai. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram
hymns had a mention about this Temple.
The Temple
This is a small temple enclosed
by compound walls. The Temple has sanctum, Mother Shrine, Sandeeswarar Shrine,
Suryan Shrine and Bhairavar Shrines in the open area. Presiding Deity is called
as Brahmapureeswarar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Lord
is a Swayambhu Moorthy and is facing east. The lingam has a mole on it and
it is visible while doing oil abishekam. Nandi is housed in a small mandapam
opposite to the sanctum. Balipeedam is located next to Nandi Mandapam. Mother
is called as Soundara Nayagi / Sugantha Kunthalambigai. She is housed in a
separate east facing shrine.

The Temple is considered as
Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Sundarar had a mention about
this Temple. The Temple is mentioned in 7th Thirumurai in 31st
Patikam in 8th Song.
