Kasi Viswanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Vazhkudi Village near Thiruvirkudi in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Visalakshi. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about this Temple. The place was called as Vidaivaikudi during ancient times but currently called as Vazhkudi or Vakkudi.


The Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Visalakshi. She is housed in a separate shrine. There are shrines of Vinayaga, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Bhairava, Suryan, Saneeswarar and Navagrahas in the Temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Pavazha Malli (Coral Jasmine).

Literary Mention
The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar had a mention about this Temple. The Temple is mentioned in 6th Thirumurai in 71st Patikam in 3rd Song.

The Temple is located at about 1.5 Kms from Thiruvirkudi, 3 Kms from Kangalancheri, 4 Kms from Kangalancheri Railway Station, 6 Kms from Surakkudi, 11 Kms from Thiruvarur, 12 Kms from Thiruvarur Railway Station, 22 Kms from Nagore, 28 Kms from Nagapattinam, 37 Kms from Mayiladuthurai and 128 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on Thiruvarur to Mayiladuthurai Route. Take a left at Surakkudi and continue on the Nagore Road. After crossing Kangalancherry, Vakkudi will be seen on the left side.
