Kumara Murugan Temple,

Kumara Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan located at Karikkal Malai
near Sholingur Town in Vellore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding
Deity is called as Kumara Murugan / Kundrai Saritha Kumaran. This is a hill temple with 325 steps. The place
is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about
this place. Karikkal Malai was
also known as Kumaresa Giri.
Legends
After
marrying Valli, Lord Murugan settled in Thiruthani with his consorts. When Lord
Murugan was chatting with his consorts Valli and Devasena, his consorts differ
in opinion with Lord Muruga. This incident angered Lord Murugan. Hence, he left
the place and came here. To mark his arrival, he skewed a peak of the hill.
Hence, he came to be called as Kundrai Saritha Kumaran. Lord Murugan also
decided to take this Hill as his abode. Hence, he came in the dreams of Muruganandha
Adigal and instructed him to raise a Temple. With the help of devotees and
friends, Muruganandha Adigal raised the current temple.

Temple
The
Temple is situated on a small hillock. There are 325 steps to reach this
Temple. There is a shrine for Swayambhu Vinayaga at the foot hills. Presiding
Deity is called as Kumara Murugan / Kundrai Saritha Kumaran. He is housed in
the sanctum. He is gracing the devotees all alone without his consorts Valli
and Devyani. This is a unique feature nowhere to be seen.
Literary Mention
The
Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar
had a mention about this Temple. The Temple is mentioned in 7th Thirumurai
in 47th Patikam in 5th Song.
