Lingeswarar Temple, Pannur, Thiruvarur
Aadhi Lingeswarar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Annadhanapuram Village in
Nannilam Taluk in Thiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called
as Aadhi Lingeswarar / Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari /
Thirupurasundari. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram
hymns had a mention about this Temple. Annadhanapuram was called as Pannur in
ancient times.
The
Temple
The Temple is facing east and
situated on the banks of big Pond. Though the temple is east facing its
entrance is from south. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Lingeswarar /
Kailasanathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of big Linga. Lord Shiva
is worshipped with Thazampoo which shows the temple existed before the
Lingodbhava legend. Vinayaga and Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli &
Deivanai can be seen at the entrance of the sanctum.
Dakshinamoorthy and Durga are
the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum wall. Chandikeswarar can be found
in his usual location. Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari / Thirupurasundari.
She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There is a shrine for Vinayaga
in the southwest corner of the Temple. There is shrine for Kasi Viswanathar in
the northwest corner of the Temple.

The Temple remains open from 07.00 AM to 09.00 AM and
04.00 PM to 06.00 PM.

The Temple is considered as
Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Sundarar had a mention about
this Temple. The Temple is mentioned in 7th Thirumurai in 12th
Patikam in 6th Song.

Kms from Karaikal, 36 Kms from Thiruvarur and 138 Kms from Trichy Airport. The
Temple is situated on Mayiladuthurai – Kollumangudi – Karaikal Route. After
crossing the Pavattakudi, take a left to reach this Temple.
