Annamalaiyar Temple - Vayu Lingam
Vayu lingam in Thiruvannamalai is the sixth of the eight
Lingams (Ashta Lingams) which one encounters during Girivalam in Thiruvannamalai.
Vayu Lingam has the north-west direction as its direction. It is situated on
the Girivalam pathway, about one kilometer after the village of Adi Annamalai.
Vayu is the Hindu god of wind and he is often associated
with Indra. His vehicle is the deer. Kedhu (Kethu) is the dominant Navagraha of
this Lingam. As Vayu is the God of wind, He provides creatures with vital
life-giving breath thus sustaining the entire Universe.
The whole world is made up of Earth, Water, Fire, Air
and Sky. No living creature can survive without Air. While reaching this temple
we feel the pleasantness of spring and get peace of mind. Worshipping here is
of confers boon on ladies and children.
It is reported that at any time of the day, and in every
season, when one enters this shrine one is always greeted by a gust of wind.
Relief from heart diseases, stomach problems, lung
problems and general illness are conferred to the devotees on worshipping this
Lingam.
Creation
Vayu Bhagawan who is the God of wind had created this
lingam and had worshipped Lord Shiva here. As per Hindu Mythology, Vayu
provides the breath of life to all people.
Navagraha
Vayu Lingam’s dominant Navagraha is Kethu which is also
known as Ketu. The moon sign of this lingam is Karka or cancer.
Speciality
It is believed that worshiping this lingam provides cure
for people with lung ailments, heart problems and breathing problems.
Location
Vayu Lingam is located towards the North West of
Arunachala hill. The village of Adi Annamalai and Swami Suddhananda Ashram are
located about a km from here. Vayu Lingam is located at about 5.4 km from the
Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple.
