Chitraruvi (Small Falls), Courtallam, Thirunelveli
Chitraruvi
is located adjacent to the Main Falls. The size of the falls is comparatively
small and the people who are scared of Peraruvi (Main Falls) can literally
enjoy Chitraruvi. Separate sections are present both for men and women to take
bathe. Chitraruvi or the Small Falls lead to other waterfalls such as Shenbaga
Devi Falls and Thenaruvi. Shenbaga Devi cascade is located above
Chitraruvi and an adventurous trek uphill, through the Chitraruvi forest,
leads to the falls. The stream of water is believed to have rich herbal and
therapeutic properties.
For easy
access to the falls, there are steps along with the road to the falls. The
visitors, who are enthusiastic about bathing under the waterfalls, usually
prefer the Chitraruvi Falls when compared to Peraruvi, as they are mightier
than them. Also, at Chitraruvi, a natural barrier separates the bathing area
for men and women. The main source of the Chitraruvi and the other falls in Courtallam
is the north east monsoon rain water. The months of October to December are the
ideal time to visit these falls and bathe in their waters. Chitraruvi (Small Falls) is located at about
650 meters from Courtallam Bus Stand.
