Legends
Story behind the name Kavanthandalam:
The name
of the village hails from the word Kachiyappar Thandalam which over the course
of time has changed to Kavanthandalam. Legend has it that the lingam was
brought from Kailash by sage Kashyapa and established in the village. The name
was a result of a saint, Kasiyappa Munivar, who had lived and meditated at this
village.
Pitru Dosha:
A
devotee had preserved the ashes of his deceased father to be scattered in the
Ganga flowing in Varanasi. The ash had turned fragrant Mullai, and the devotee
had darshan of Kasi Visalakshi, Viswanatha and Annapoorani. The temple is ideal
to perform rituals for ancestors (Pitru).
The

Presiding

ancient temple and very small one. It is located on the banks of River Cheyyar.
