Choliswarar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Kavanthandalam in Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. The deity is worshipped for progeny and prosperity. The temple is ideal to perform rituals for ancestors (Pitru).

Legends
Story behind the name Kavanthandalam:
The name of the village hails from the word Kachiyappar Thandalam which over the course of time has changed to Kavanthandalam. Legend has it that the lingam was brought from Kailash by sage Kashyapa and established in the village. The name was a result of a saint, Kasiyappa Munivar, who had lived and meditated at this village.
Pitru Dosha:
A devotee had preserved the ashes of his deceased father to be scattered in the Ganga flowing in Varanasi. The ash had turned fragrant Mullai, and the devotee had darshan of Kasi Visalakshi, Viswanatha and Annapoorani. The temple is ideal to perform rituals for ancestors (Pitru).
The Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Choliswarar and Mother is called as Sundarambal. It is an ancient temple and very small one. It is located on the banks of River Cheyyar. The Temple has been renovated recently.

Kavanthandalam is 20 km south-east of Kanchipuram, on the banks of River Cheyyar. The location of Kavanthandalam in the proximity of Kanchipuram, known as temple city adds to the richness of the cultural heritage of this village. The village is well connected by road to Kanchipuram and Walajabad which are 20 and 8 km respectively.
