Kandhaswamy Temple, Cheyyur – Literary Mention

Kandhaswamy Temple, Cheyyur – Literary Mention
There are several works on Sri Kandhaswamy at Cheyyur. Andhaka kavi Veeraraghava Mudaliyar has composed the Cheyyur Murugan Pillai Thamizh and Cheyyur Kalambakam. Cherai Kaviraja Pillai has composed Cheyyur Murugan Ula; Sri Murugadas Swamigal has composed Cheyyur Murugan Pathigam and Sivaprakasa Swamigal has composed Nenju Vidu Thoodhu.
By far the most important aspect of this temple is that it has verses sung on Sri Kandhaswamy by Arunagirinathar and features in the Thirupugazh. The verses of the Thirupugazh are found inscribed in the wall of the Artha mandapa and there is also a statue of Saint Arunagirinathar in the temple.
27 Vedhalams are installed around the compound wall, which are connected to 27 Natchathras in a later stage may be after 1944 as there is no mention about this in the Sthalapuranam written by Mr Muthaiah Mudaliyar.
